It is a well-known fact that al fresco dining makes food taste better so match French food with outside dining and it can be a magical experience. After a long day of travelling by land and sea and sightseeing at the famous Mont-Saint-Michel, Monsieur and I tucked into a delicious dinner of moules frites a la crème and a galette with salmon and goats cheese.
The mussels were fresh from the local area and were brimming from the pot. The sauce as deliciously creamy and perfect for soaking the frites and baguette slices in for a slurpy mouthful. The mussels were best eaten by shelling them all into the sauce first rather than eating them one by one. This technique takes patience but it is well worth the effort.
The galette, which is a crepe made out of buckwheat flour, was filled with sautéed leeks, salmon and melted goats cheese. The flavours melded together well and were complimented by the side salad with classic French dressing.
Monsieur refreshed himself with a cidre (not cider) from Brittany as a special treat to celebrate our successful first leg of the French adventure.
